Introduction

The global energy landscape is changing dramatically and rapidly. The EDF group is now faced with new issues and has to take up new challenges: it must adapt to possible energy shortages in the future and the new regulations in force, the opening up of the electricity markets and ever greater competition, and lastly it has to strike a balance and be more flexible in order to better control the production, storage and use of electricity.
The team from EDF Energy’s partner for the development of the Elektrobay project, a solution for recharging electric vehicles.

The future challenge

EDF R&D has built a scenario that allows to shift out the direct fossil energy use in buildings, without increasing dramatically the electricity uses. This scenario is based on the dissemination of existing best technologies, as efficient thermal insulation, heat pumps and biomass for space heating, and solar. It has been published in the french foresight monthly journal "Futuribles" under the title "Buildings without any fossil energy in France in 2050 ?".
